"Bernie Rhodenbarr, at your service," I said. "I'm here to fix the plumbing."
The woman eyed me suspiciously. "We don't have any plumbing problems."
"Oh, I'm sure you do," I said, flashing her my most charming smile. "You just don't know it yet."
She hesitated for a moment, then stepped aside. "Very well. Go ahead."
I walked into the house, my senses on high alert. The place was opulent, with plush carpets, gold-plated fixtures, and a grand piano in the corner. It was the kind of place where you expected to see Elvis himself lounging on a velvet sofa.
I made my way to the kitchen, where I found a sink full of dirty dishes. I turned on the water and pretended to inspect the pipes.
"Excuse me, sir," a voice said behind me.
I turned around to see a tall, slender man with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. He was wearing a white jumpsuit and a gold chain around his neck.
"Elvis Presley," I said, my jaw dropping in disbelief.
He smiled. "The one and only."
